Frequently Asked Questions
What's included in the boxkit?
Boxkit includes three (3) items: - A book, a drone, and a pocket stereoscope. The book and drone are included in kits as pictured. The drone captures both photos & video.
Why a lookbook and not an eBook?
Learners of all ages are inundated with digital content. Log into this app. Go to this website. Click here. Drag this. Swipe there. There's an intentional focus & elegance that comes with bundling a drone that does not require a mobile device to fly, and a lookbook that does not require a smartphone for content access. It's about leaning into the technology without extra distractions and without extra screens. Just take the kit to an open space and fly!
What's a suitable age range for this boxkit?
Ages 9 to 99. An important audience is parents of younger learners because it helps us activate our mission with the heroes of tomorrow's workforce. We ultimately want to empower drone enthusiasts, hobbyists, teachers, and aspiring pilots by leading the curious into a growing relationship with aeronautical knowledge through high impact drone experiences.
Is this product sensory-friendly?
We designed this kit to serve diverse learner populations, and seek to bridge the digital divide by bringing a new lens to future skills in an inclusive way. This means we used large lettering, intentional whitespace, and calm colors for page edges in the book. The viewfinder-type accessory (stereoscope) is included in the kit as a companion for those times when the learner may want a different sensory experience than what is offered by the drone or the book. Most importantly, no wi-fi connection or smartphone device is required to fly the drone. Accessibility for a wide range of audiences was a key consideration in designing this kit and we hope you feel the love we poured into it!
Is the book sold separately from the boxkit and where else can I buy it?
Yes. We always offer the lowest pricing here because we want to reward customers for shopping direct, but we are grateful for our retail partners. The Aerial Lookbook title is available where books are sold, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The book debuted in July 2020 as the #2 new release in Aerial Photography on Amazon.
What do I do if the book is sold out?
We prep & ship the boxkits separately from book orders. This means that while the prepackaged Project Skybox™ boxkits contain a lookbook, the Aerial Lookbook inventory is still managed and replenished under a unique SKU. Out of stock product inventory is usually replenished every 14 days. We will indicate if restocking timelines are impacted by COVID-19 directly on this order page. If you prefer not to wait until the title is restocked, you can purchase the large format paperback at Amazon. If you have a bulk order (quantities of 20+) for Project Skybox™ or the Aerial Lookbook, contact us at support@lens.vegas for enhanced customer care and discounted pricing.
Does the drone include propeller guards?
Yes.
Does this drone allow for FPV (first-person view)?
Yes. For the more advanced operator comfortable with the functional controls, you can use your smartphone to enjoy a "bird's eye view" experience while in flight. We recommend learners start by operating the drone with just the remote control, and progress to pairing a smartphone device to enable FPV capabilities. Be mindful that FAA regulations govern outdoor drone operations, and the remote pilot in control must maintain visual line of sight with their drone or engage the help of a visual observer to do the same.
How much does the drone weigh?
7.2 oz (Slightly less than 0.5lbs).
Why is the lookbook essential to the boxkit?
The lookbook is the most important ingredient. It's an immersive visual guidebook that functions as both a workbook & study guide. The lookbook is designed to meet learners where they are, whether they simply want to explore the curated collection of aerials or whether they want to use the aeronautical knowledge to pursue pilot certification. The lookbook provides clear visual cues to the learner on how to safely & artfully capture footage in different environments.
What is Part 107 and why should I care?
Part 107 is the portion of federal regulations that applies to unmanned aircraft systems. For example, when a commercial pilot is licensed they are credentialed under Part 61 of the CFR. Airspace is shared by all pilots, so it's important learners know the rules and how not to break them whether hobbyist or certified drone pilot. For those operating a drone outdoors now & in the future, the rules of the sky are the 'rules of the road.' Let’s all share the sky responsibly!
